Sian Alice Group is a London-based band comprising two women and two men. The band was originally formed by Rupert Clervaux, who has played with Spring Heel Jack and has been active as a engineer and producer for numerous bands, and Ben Crook, who had been playing under the moniker “40000 Ghosts,” asked vocalist Sian Ahern to join them in late 2006. The band started playing with its current lineup of members when Sasha Vine joined to play violin and piano. Douglas Hart, formerly of Jesus & Mary Chain, also plays with the band, primarily for live performances.
In 2007 Sian Alice Group signed with Brooklyn-based The Social Registry label, known for releasing recordings by Gang Gang Dance, among others, and released their debut single that same year. In February 2008, the band released its first album “59.59,” which featured Brian De Graw of Gang Gang Dance and John Coxon of Spring Heel Jack. In May 2008, the band released a single entitled “The Dusk Line.” The quality of those recordings and their powerful live performances brought Sian Alice Group much attention and the band toured the U.K. with Spiritualized at Jason Pierce’s request. Sian Alice Group is uniquely alternative band with strong artistic color in the current British Music scene marked by a proliferation of bland young bands that are know first and foremost for media exposure. |
