Spiral Chord was formed by Gendo, formerly of Cowpers and Hera of 200MPH in early 2003. In January 2004, bass player Kentaro Nakao (ex-Number Girl) joined the lineup and the band released “Nounai Friction,” its debut album in April 2005. In the summer of 2006, the band released “Brainburst Brigade,” their first solo DVD of a show they played in Shimokitazawa Shelter in May 2005. In September and October 2006 they participated in “Shelter Tours,” an event held to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the club Shimokitazawa Shelter. Spiral Chord’s association with Contrarede began when the band quickly became acquainted with 54-71 during that event. In March 2008 the band released its first for Contrarede, a mini album entitled “SA-YO-NA-RA Sekai.”
Spiral Chord’s sound might best be described as “tough-guy emotional hardcore noise punk.” The band takes off from a US alternative sound, making it sharper and more aggressive combining a dissonant guitar sound and a driving rhythm section with emotionally gripping melodies and vocals. Spiral Chord’s music is the epitome of an organically alternative sound that is entirely free of any musical trends.
The band stopped playing in August 2008. |
