Started in 1993, Table of the Elements has released works by numerous free, avant-garde, and experimental artists such as John Fahey, Tony Conrad, Faust, Loren Mazzacane Connors, Captain Beefheart, John Cale, Gastr del Sol, Jim O’Rourke, Thurston Moore, and Lee Renaldo. Radium was started by Table of the Elements to introduce the outputs of a new alternative music scene. Radium releases are colored by Table of the Elements’ experimental approach but place a stronger emphasis on rock and pop aesthetics. The releases are colorful and eclectic−they include folk, blues and other roots and traditional music as well as electro, minimal, noise, post-rock and post-punk recordings. Each of the label’s releases has been so idiosyncratic that it sometimes feels as if the label is ridiculing the current music scene. And amazingly, each release has also been characterized by the grandeur and stubbornness of Table of the Elements releases. Future releases from both Radium and Table of the Elements are not to be missed. |
